AHSA Monthly Meeting 15 July 2020 (Roger McKay: Jet Fighter Evolution)

Squadron Leader Roger McKay gave a presentation on the evolution of jet fighter design, explaining the development from “first generation” to “fifth generation” designs.

1897 Edgar Wikner Percival (1897-1984), pilot and aircraft designer, was born on 23 February 1897 at Albury, New South Wales, second son of William Percival, a Sydney-born butter-manufacturer, and his wife Blanche Hilda Leontina, née Wikner, from Goulburn. Educated at Richmond Grammar School, he left at 15 to begin an engineering apprenticeship. 1945 Lockheed RB-34A Ventura A59-9, ex #41-38108, (FD656), c/n 4764 operated by 1 OTU RAAF crashed at East Sale, Victoria on 23 February 1945. There were 6 fatalities and the aircraft was destroyed.
